In their own words......

Luke has been a Motorhead since he was a kid, helping friends with all kinds of old cars and a few of his own.  He and a friend even tried to make a drag car out of an old jaguar but they finally gave up.  Building his own Street Rod has always been his dream.  The idea of taking a rusted hull of an old car and making it into a Rod was his ultimate goal.  Luke and Denise found a 1946 Ford Coupe right down street from them but the owner had a hard time letting go of it.  In 1993, they convinced the owner to sell it to them.
This car was purchased new in Carlsbad and has always been in Carlsbad.  Luke and Denise are the third owners.
What a job they took on.  The '46 Ford had no engine, no transmission, no glass, no interior, just a rusty hull.  Everyone thought Luke had lost his mind.  But seven years later, Luke and Denise have their own unique Street Rod.
It looks like a Ford, but it's heart is Chevrolet!!!!!  After dismantling the entire car,  a Camaro front clip was welded on and it also sits on a chevrolet rearend.  All of this was sandblasted and painted with pewter metallic paint.  Sandblasting became an everyday chore for quite awhile,  the entire car had to be sandblasted and primed.
Once all the sandblasting and priming was complete came the body work.  The car was fairly straight except for BB and pellet dents all over it.  The front parking lights were used in 1946 only and were left to identify this particular year model.  Then Luke decided to "french" 1959 Cadillac taillights (complete with blue dots) into it.  The rear license plate was also "frenched" into the trunk.  Then came painting the interior Pewter and exterior Snow White.
The engine is completely after-market except for the 350 Chevrolet block.  It is now a 331 cubic inch engine.
All of the glass had to be replaced, including all new rubber seals and felt channeling.   A set of bucket seats was located and the interior was designed around them.  All of the interior is variations of gray and white.
The latest additions are a CD player, power antenna, and body graphics.
Weekend cruises with the club or solo are really fun. You can hear Luke and Denise coming in their 1946 Ford Coupe with the  Hi-lift Cam and Lake Pipes.  It really sounds great!!!!!!!!

In their own words......

In 1967, Luke went to work for a GM Dealership and the new 1967 Buick GS was a car he really wanted. In 1968 he became the owner of his dream car,  the car that was fast with class!  Although, Denise wasn't really impressed with cars that were new, she was impressed by cars that were new and FAST! It won her over and she married Luke and his Buick GS.
A few years later, a friend talked him into selling it to him.  Luke always regretted selling that car.  In the late 1980's, Denise, found another 67 GS in a salvage yard and proceeded to tell Luke and they purchased it. The engine and transmission were shot and had to be totally rebuilt.  The body was fair but had a lot of bondo.  The interior was really trashed and everything had to be replaced.
Buick restoration is very costly and parts are scarce.  But after years of searching, all of this car has been restored.
The first paint job was supposed to be red, but everyone thought it looked like General Lee orange.  It now has a fresh paint job of Springtime Yellow.
